The Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Beijing is accredited to the People’s Republic of China, with concurrent accreditation to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and the Mongolian People’s Republic. Our mission is to advance Tanzania’s national interests through diplomacy, cooperation, and friendship across this important region.

Tanzania is a peaceful and politically stable nation, richly endowed with natural beauty and abundant resources. It is home to globally renowned tourism destinations, including Mount Kilimanjaro—the highest peak in Africa, the exotic islands of Zanzibar, and over sixteen national parks teeming with wildlife such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous). Our vast landscapes include fertile agricultural lands, dense forests, and valuable mineral reserves, including tanzanite, diamonds, gold, iron, coal, nickel, uranium, and significant deposits of oil and natural gas.

Tanzania and China share a deep-rooted and historic friendship that dates back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1964. This relationship was founded on shared values and solidarity by visionary leaders: Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere and Abeid Amani Karume on the Tanzanian side, and Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai on the Chinese side. Since then, our partnership has grown from strength to strength, with Tanzania remaining a steadfast supporter of the One China policy.

In recent years, our traditional friendship has been revitalized with new dynamism and expanded cooperation. High-level visits and engagements—such as the 2022 State Visit by Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan to China and reciprocal exchanges at ministerial and institutional levels—have further cemented our political trust and mutual understanding. Her Excellency President Samia also participated at the 8th FOCAC Summit held in Beijing in September 2024 , reflecting the strategic depth of our collaboration.

Tanzania is proud to be among the early supporters of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched by His Excellency President Xi Jinping, which aligns with our national development priorities under Tanzania’s Development Vision 2025 and the Third Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III). Through frameworks such as FOCAC and BRI, we are actively working to deepen connectivity, industrialization, infrastructure development, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Embassy’s key mandate is to reinforce these longstanding ties and to promote an even more robust Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Tanzania and China. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit and the Belt and Road Forums, leveraging China’s preferential measures and development opportunities to uplift bilateral cooperation to new heights.

To this end, the Embassy will continue to collaborate closely with stakeholders across China—including the Communist Party of China (CPC), national and provincial governments, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Chinese state-owned enterprises, universities, research institutions, and private sector actors in both countries.

We remain dedicated to fostering a model relationship of mutual benefit, shared prosperity, and win-win cooperation, setting an example of Africa-China solidarity and partnership.

It is our sincere hope that this website offers a useful window into the richness of Tanzania—famously known as “The Land of Kilimanjaro”—and inspires you to explore opportunities to visit, invest, and collaborate with our great nation.

You are most welcome to partner with Tanzania.
